Steps to expedite road work

In order to expedite the construction of an approach road to Kothi bridge across the Kallaipuzha, the district administration has asked 17 families residing at the project site to shift to houses built for them under a rehabilitation plan at Chamundivalappu. These families have been asked to move out before December 28.
This was decided at a meeting convened by District Collector P.B. Salim on Tuesday and attended by representatives of an action committee formed by the people. Though work on the Kothi bridge was completed 14 years ago, it was not used due to the delay in constructing the approach road.
Besides the 17 families who have been asked to move out, there are 26 houses at the project site. These would be pulled down to clear the way for construction of the approach road, if an agreement for rehabilitation of families living there is not signed soon. A task force in which the Mayor and MLAs would be members is being set up to speed up eviction from the project siteand expedite road construction.
